Micro USB Port Charger Detection with OVP and OCP Protection

Pericom at Embedded World
Pericom introduces a range of products at the Embedded World:
February 25-27, 2014 Nuremberg, Germany

Products

The PI3USB9281 provides external detection for any USB-device and offers OVP (>6.8VA), OCP (>1.7A), and VBUS protection to withstand up to 28V. Device's ID connector interface can detect standard accessory or can be customized to detect specific accessories. It also detects various chargers available in the market, including car-chargers per the CEA936 spec. and non-charger accessories such as MHL and OTG. The PI3USB9281 also integrates a power switch with over-voltage and over-current protection. It is a USB2.0 data switch with 1.2GHz bandwidth and provides good eye diagram.

  • Latest chargers supported by the PI3USB9281:
    • 12W Apple (5V, 2.4A), 10W Apple (5V, 2A), 5W Apple (5V, 1A)
    • Samsung FAST charge
  • Integrated Power FET
  • USB BC1.2 – CDP, USB BC1.2 – SDP, USB BC1.2 – DCP
  • Additional micro-B connector interface for non-charging sources such as USB OTG and MHL
  • I2C programmability on all port registers by embedded controller
  • Small Package: CSP 1.5 x 2.0 - 15L
PT7M61xx Series – Ultra Low Power Voltage Detectors
The PT7M61xx series of ultra low power voltage detectors monitor battery, power supply and system voltages, provide excellent circuit reliability and low cost by eliminating external components and adjustments when monitoring nominal system voltages. The device offers with a propagation delay of 17μs.
  • Highly accurate: 1.5% (25°C)
  • Three output stage options: Push-pull with active-low output, Push-pull with active-high output, Open drain with active-low output
  • Low power consumption: 1μA @ 3.6V Vcc, Operating voltage range: 1.2V ~ 5.5V
  • Detect voltage range: 1.8 to 5V in 100mV increment
  • Operating temperature range: -40°C to + 85°C
Other Products

PI6C49X0201 – 1:1 Differential to LVCMOS/LVTTL Translator
PI6C49X0201 Translator High Performance Buffer provides 1:1 Differential to LVCMOS/LVTTL. The small 8-lead SOIC footprint is ideal for use in applications with limited board space.
  • One LVCMOS/ LVTTL output
  • Differential CLK/nCLK input pair
  • CLK/nCLK pair can accept the following differential input levels: LVPECL, LVDS, LVHSTL, SSTL, HCSL
  • Output frequency: 360MHz
  • Part-to-part skew: 500ps (maximum)
  • Additive phase jitter, RMS: 0.09ps (typical), 3.3V output
  • Full 3.3V and 2.5V operating supply
  • -40°C to 85°C ambient operating temperature

Application Note

High Speed Layout Guideline
As transmission data rate increases rapidly, any flaws and/or mis-matches on PCB layout are amplified in terms of signal integrity. Layout guideline for high-speed transmission is highlighted in this application note.

Pericom's 40GbE Timing Solution
Pericom’s ultra-low jitter (0.2ps max @10k to 1MHz) crystal oscillators UX series fulfill the requirements of today’s networking chipsets with extra margin. Pericom’s crystal oscillators UX series are able to provide lower jitter with over 30% jitter margins to tolerate the use of clock buffers and additive jitter from the system.
