Pericom Delivers Broad Support for Server Platforms

New Products Cover Timing, Switching, Connectivity, and Signal Integrity Functions For Latest Server/Storage Chipsets and Platforms

OPEN SERVER SUMMIT (OSS), Santa Clara, CA, November 12, 2014 –Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: PSEM), a leading supplier of serial high-speed switching, signal-integrity, connectivity and timing solutions, today announced multiple new products in support of next generation server and storage chipsets and platforms, including workstation, pedestal, rack, blade, micro-server, and other related architectures.  Pericom will display these products at OSS, Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, CA, November 12-13, 2014 at Booth # 209.
Server, storage, and networking chipsets are on the leading edge of utilizing the fastest high-speed serial protocol I/Os up to 12Gb, and then placed on the largest PCB platforms. Pericom’s new solutions solve not only PCB signal degradation issues with linear ReDrivers, but also PCIe port fanout limitations, I2C and GPIO bus routing issues to multiple end points, protocol mux switching problems and provide very low jitter timing source and buffering for PCIe, Ethernet, and other specific protocols. For example, the new UX XO family provides under 100 fS (femto-seconds) of RMS jitter for 40Gb Ethernet chipsets – the lowest available in the market.
“Steady unit growth cloud computing and data center (server, storage, and networking) platforms are a key focus area for us,” said Alex Hui, Pericom president and CEO. “These typically larger platforms with long design and life cycles have their own unique set of implementation issues. We work with key chipset vendors to provide optimized and compliant timing, switching, and signal integrity solutions that in many cases truly enable our customer platforms to operate competitively and cost effectively.”
The new products are designed to support the latest CPU/processor chipsets in combination with customer platform needs. They expand Pericom’s ‘total segment solution focus’ for server/storage platforms and include a new signal integrity family of linear ReDrivers for 8Gb PCIe3/10Gb Ethernet/ 12Gb SAS3, as well as 5Gb USB3.  New mux switching families cover 8Gb/10Gb/12Gb, while new I2C and GPIO families offer port expander mux/level shifter/buffer functions. New Connectivity products include a family of PCIe 2.0 packet switches for port fanout.  New Timing products include protocol specific low jitter clock generators and buffers, as well as extremely low jitter 156.25MHz XO aimed at 10/40Gb Ethernet applications.
