Pericom USB 3.0 ReDriver™ - Solves Signal Integrity Issues

Pericom USB 3.0 ReDriver/Repeater-Optimal Eye Opening, Optimal Packet Transfer, Minimize Crosstalk

With the rapid deployment of USB 3.0 across all systems, the 5Gb USB 3.0 signal introduces uncontrollable noise, or signal attenuation, causing the signal to degrade, which can lead to non compliant signals at the connector or at the end of the cable. This degraded signal quality of the USB 3.0 “signal eye” during high-speed signal switching is also more suseptable to crosstalk during transmitting and receiving between the host and peripheral end point devices.

Pericom's USB-IF compliant* USB 3.0 ReDriver™/Repeater technology offsets overall signal insertion loss and solves the signal integrity (SI) issues of trace/cable extension. The first wave of USB 3.0 adoption is spreading across Ultrabook, Notebook, Server, Tablet, and PC platforms, and is rapidly being deployed in Smart Phone, Digital Camera, Video Camcoder and other consumer electronic devices. The USB 3.0 ReDriver/Repeater solution is also being adopted on Automotive/Infotainment/Camera/Sensor and Surveillance Systems. Pericom's USB 3.0 ReDriver/Repeater technology enables 100% cable link-up to peripheral devices without any critical system down time, and assures the platform meets USB 3.0 compliance standards.
Benefits of Pericom USB 3.0 ReDriver™
          • Compensate cumulative signal insertion loss on high-speed USB 3.0 trace, or cable.
          • Establish reliable USB 3.0 cable link-up to peripheral devices without any system down time.
          • Tx pre-emphasis and Rx equalization setting options for optimal eye opening.
          • Enables the end platform to pass USB 3.0 signal compliance standards.
          • Capable of supporting USB 3.0 cable extension up to 10 meters.
*Pericom is the industry’s only USB 3.0 ReDriver/Repeater (tested in the signal path of a host adaptor card product) to officially pass USB-IF full suite of compliance testing and be listed on their website integrator’s list www.usb.org. (Listed as ‘Pericom Add on Card 7741’ under the SuperSpeed Add-In Host Adapter Section). All Pericom USB3 ReDriver family products share the same design as our fully compliant 7741 used in the USB-IF testing.

8-channel D1 PCI Express Video Decoder

The video surveillance industry is surging rapidly not only in terms of technological advances, but also in terms of adoption in new applications sectors.  The first new products of the video decoder family are targeted to the PCIe-based DVR and video security systems. The new and highly integrated video decoders help to solve the signal integrity of the incoming images. By using a proprietary sync-tip design, and integrating industry leading PCI Express technology, Pericom's new 4 and 8-channel video/audio decoder IC's recovers and boosts a weak, unstable composite signal over a long single cable connection.

                Features and Benefits
Pericom's industry leading PCIe technology with advanced 4 and 8-channel video decoder functionality to handle the latest system monitoring requirements.
                • Built-in Automatic Gain Control (AGC) and Digital Signal Processor boosts the 60mVp-p weak composite video signal.
                • Proprietary sync-tip detection can decode a signal across up to 500-700 meters of coaxial cable for standard NTSC/PAL video signals.
                • 5-line adaptive comb filters for optimal Luma-Chroma separation reduce the color bleeding effect.

Pericom Expands USB 3.0 Signal Conditioning Family

Industry smallest footprint and lowest power targets mobile devices

San Jose, CA, February 25, 2013–Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: PSEM), a leading supplier of high-speed connectivity, signal-conditioning and timing solutions, today announced the expansion of its USB 3.0 5Gb ReDriverTM Signal Conditioning product family. The new additions offer the industry’s smallest footprint at 2mmx2mm, and  lowest  power in both operating (158mW) and all important slumber mode (3.63mW), making them ideal for battery powered mobile devices, such as tablets, smart phones, and notebooks. AC powered platforms such as servers and networking switches also benefit since power and space savings are equally important.
Pericom’s USB 3.0 ReDriver family enables end customer platform designers to extend the PCB trace or cable length and preserve signal integrity.  The extra signal margin can help assure that the platform will properly recognize and connect to a peripheral USB 3.0 device at USB 3.0 speeds.
“Mobile device chipsets typically have lower signal strength, so our smaller, lower power ReDrivers are being adopted to handle the external cable and still meet USB3 standards compliance,” said Bill Weir, senior director for Pericom’s Connect Products Group. “Our product roadmap will soon offer even lower power and lower voltage options in the same pinout for seamless transition, and continue our performance tradition of full standards compliance.”
End customer platforms for Pericom’s USB 3.0 ReDriver products include tablets, smart phones, notebooks, desktop, docking stations, workstations, servers, storage, embedded, networking, consumer (camera, DVR, etc), HDD/SSD, and other platforms that are rapidly moving to the new and faster USB 3.0 serial protocol. USB is by far the most widely used serial protocol in the world, offering transfer speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0.  GII (Global Information, Inc - Nov, 2012) forecasts that global market for USB3 devices will grow more than 500% through 2016, with over 2.5 Billion USB3 enabled products being shipped.
